Star Wars Television: Confirmed & Rumored Shows for Disney+

With the first season of Disney’s Star Wars The Mandalorian officially over, fans find themselves asking what’s next for the galaxy far, far away. Baby Yoda and Den Jarrik have taught us that the big screen is not the only place to find lore about favorite characters. Nerd News junkies know that there is more television coming to Disney+. This means that more Star Wars Television shows are coming to the growing streaming service. I’ve compiled a list of all the confirmed and rumored Star Wars television shows that fans will or could see on Disney+

Star Wars TV Confirmed!

Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7

It’s no secret that Dave Filoni never finished his animated masterpiece when Disney canceled the Clone Wars. Unanswered questions about some of our favorite Jedi, bounty hunters, and former Sith left fans wanting more from the series. Books, comics, and even cartoons answered some of these questions, but not all of them.

Fans followed Assaj Ventress and Quinlan Vos through the novel Dark Apprentice. In Son of Dathomir, we learned about what happened to Darth Maul after his battle with Darth Sidious. We even learn about how Ahsoka Tano becomes Star Wars Rebels’ Fulcrum through the novel Ahsoka. But on February 17th, fans will finally get to learn more about Anakin, Ahsoka, and company.

This 12 episode season introduces characters cut from the original season like the Bad Batch. Fans also speculate the series finishes with the Battle of Mandalore.

Jedi Temple Challenge

While the Jedi Temple Challenge is not the typical Star Wars TV show that fans are looking for, it is confirmed and looks to be entertaining. The first game show of it’s kind, the Jedi Temple Challenge will test contestants–I can only assume they will be called padawans–in three different locations: a forest planet, onboard a star destroyer, and in the Jedi temple. Hosted by Amhed Best (A.K.A the actor who played Jar Jar Binks), this show is test padawans’ strength, knowledge, and bravery as they face obstacles as they attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight.

StarWars.com does say contestants will face the dark side, but it is unlikely that one will actually turn, achieve the rank of Sith Lord, and kill all the younglings in the Jedi temple.

Just saying.

Cassian Andor Series

Back in 2018, Bob Iger–Disney Chairman and CEO (Most powerful man in the world)–announced that Lucasfilm was developing a second live-action Star Wars series following Cassian Andor. Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk are set to reprise their roles as Cassian Andor and his droid sidekick K-2SO. While no date for this series has been released, it is expected that fans won’t see the spy thriller until the first part of 202, at the earliest.

Tony Gilroy, screenwriter for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, returns to draft the pilot. The series begins before the events of the stand-alone film, for obvious reasons. The story follows Cassian and K2 on a series of spy missions as the Rebel Alliance attempts to topple the Empire.

There is no word is characters like Mon Mothma, General Draven, or even Bail Organa will make an appearance in the show, but nothing is being ruled out. It’s even possible to see an Ahsoka Tano cameo in the show as Cassian and Ahsoka both shared the call sign “Fulcrum.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

We have all wanted to see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even if it meant seeing him become a moisture farmer on Tattooine, fans have desperately clung to any rumor that the iconic actor would make a return to the Star Wars universe. In August of 2019, they got their wish.

The Kenobi project has long been rumored on the internet, originally stating that fans would see the errant knight on the silver screen. But with the success of The Mandalorian, is there any question that an episodic story would be more appropriate?

Deborah Chow, who directed several episodes of The Mandalorian, will take the reigns of the Kenobi project. Hossein Amini has written the series and actors and company start shooting footage sometime in 2020. This makes early 2021 a likely date for the series debut.

Sequel Star Wars Rebels Series

This section is likely going to need to be updated soon. From our research, Disney gave Dave Filoni the green light to begin work on the follow-up sequel to Rebels. It’s important to note that while we have this information on solid authority, Disney has yet to come out and confirm that a Star Wars Rebels sequel series is officially on the books.

Rumors say that this series is somewhere between being greenlit and nearing completion in post-production. THat’s a wide margin for error. But if that is the timeline, the Star Wars Rebels sequel series could land as early as the fall of 2020 or sometime in 2021.

According to potential leaks, this series will follow Ahsoka and Sabine as they navigate the New Republic and search to find Ezra Bridger in the Unknown Regions. This means it is likely that we will see Grand Admiral Thrawn as well as the Chiss people.

Star Wars TV: Rumored

Rose Tico: One Man’s Dream

The Rise of Skywalker was not what many fans wanted. The film ended with issues overlooked, characters left out, and general questions still unanswered. But the lack of screen time given to Rose Tico really upset one group of disappointed fans.

Rose Tico (the character, not the actress) is somewhat divisive. Her adventures with Finn in Episode 8 divided the fan base. Furthermore, it acted as a cause for much of the hate the film got. Even the book Cobalt Squadron did little to change the minds of some fans about the value of Rose Tico (again, the character, not the actress).

But not all fans.

Director Jon M. Chu of the hit film Crazy Rick Asians was one such fan upset by Rose’s little screen time in Episode 9. In a tweet to Disney+, Chu said,

Now, this is less of a rumor and more of a plea from the director. And may the acclaimed director to show us a side of the rebel that the audience could enjoy. If anyone can do it, it would be Jon M. Chu.

Mace Windu

Even George Lucas said that Mace Windu could have survived his fall after his encounter with Emperor Palpatine. Jedi fall from great heights and survive all the time; some even do it with a hand-cut off. It’s pretty commonplace amongst Jedi culture.

Fans have wanted the master of Vaapad to return since he was pushed out of Palpatine’s window. And they’ve gotten their wish, to some extent. Since Disney took over, Mace Windu has been the focus of comics, mentioned in a few novels, and will even play a prominent role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7.

From what we can tell, there is only one person who things Mace will be getting his own series. YouTuber Mike Zeroh has done more than a few videos on the addition of Mace coming to Disney+. And while he does support his rumor with backing, it’s still a rumor. And ALL rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

One thing that gives weight to this rumor is the fact that Samuel L. Jackson is willing to come back. And with fans fully supporting his return, this could be a possibility.

Maul

Even if he were half the sith, Maul would still be an amazing character. After his bisection on Naboo, Dave Filoni resurrected the former Sith in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He appeared in Rebels and then again Solo: A Star Wars Story. People love (Darth) Maul.

And it was his cameo at the end of Solo: A Star Wars story that fostered the desire for a Maul series to take shape on Disney+. This series could either focus on the unexplored areas of his life before the Sith and between the Clone Wars and Rebels eras. It’s likely that we would see Maul reprise his role as leader of Crimson Dawn, but the possibilities are numerous.

Dr. Aphra

If you haven’t read much of the new Star Wars comic series, you’re missing out. There are some wonderfully complex stories and beautifully drawn art. One of the most cherished characters added to the new canon is Dr. Aphra.

Think of Dr. Aphra as a female, butt-kickier Indiana Jones, with fewer scruples, more violence, and pulls in more of the ladies. Oh, and her companions are two murderous droids (think: of them as a murderous 3P0 and R2 units, hell-bent on the death of all human life).

It’s pretty great.

Jason Ward of MakingStarWars.net–whose track record for leaks is reliable–says that Dr. Aphra might not only have been greenlit but might also be in the final stages of production. This could mean that fans could see the snarky archeologist played out as a Star Wars TV show as soon as the fall of 2020.

Conclusion

These are just the shows that we have heard about so far. What other Star Wars shows would you like to see added to the list of confirmed or rumored? Did we leave out any shows you’ve heard rumors for? Leave a comment in the section below and let us know what you think.
