Star Wars News: Alphabet Squadron & Marvel Crossover

If you are only a fan of Star Wars for the movies, then you are missing out on some amazing stories. Star wars is and will continue to be more than just a handful of blockbuster movies. And maybe a few not-so-blockbuster movies. Some of the greatest characters and stories come from the pages of Star Wars novels and comic books. 2019 aims to be a great year for both as two new additions find their way to our shelves: Alphabet Squadron and Star Wars: Tie Fighter

Alphabet Squadron

Alphabet Squadron

Penned by Alexander Freed, Alphabet Squadron follows a squadron of Rebel pilots, each flying a different class of starfighter. Their task: seek out and destroying the last reminants of the Empire. From what I can tell, the main character, X-wing Pilot Yrica Quell, is an Imperial defector. This story takes place in the ashes of Return of the Jedi. It’s likely to explore events during the much neglected time period between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy. And even though the story revolves around new characters, readers shouldn’t surprised to see these new characters cross paths with some familiar faces. Like freaking NEW REPUBLIC GENERAL HERA SYNDULLA!

Alphabet Squadron is the latest trilogy to join the new canon of Star Wars stories, following the likes of the new Thrawn Trilogy and Aftermath.
Tie Fighter

Star Wars: Tie Fighter

Star Wars: Tie Fighter follows an elite squadron of Tie fighters, Shadow Wing. They protect Imperial assests in the waining days of the Empire. This comic companions Freed’s Alphabet Squadron and will tell the story from the point of view of the imperial pilots. This story is likely to explore the events leading up to Jakku, provide more information about the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, and will potentially introduce us to the First Order.

The first issue of Star Wars: Tie Fighter launches in April and will likely set the stage for the events in Alphbet Squadron which hits shelves in June. What do you think we will see in these new sources of canon?
