Battle for Azeroth: For the Alliance

In World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, the Alliance meets with challenges both old and new. I spent part of my first week back obtaining the new level cap of 120 and completing the Alliance main storyline. Without going into any spoilers, let’s look at both the Alliance setting, as well as the expansion experience thus far.

Setting the Scene

As the events of Legion wrapped up and the Battle for Azeroth began, players found themselves divided once again over the events that unfolded before them. Not just in the typical Horde vs Alliance kind of way either. Groups of Horde members found themselves declaring #NotMyWarchief as Sylvanas Windrunner gave the order to burn the world tree Teldrassil. The Alliance would face a similar issue as the events of Battle for Azeroth unfold.

Jaina Proudmoore would return to Kul Tiras to convince her homeland to rejoin the Alliance. What she would find was the contempt of a shattered nation. Our journey through Kul Tiras would require us to traverse this divided land in an attempt to seek aid for the Alliance.

Welcome to Kul Tiras

As we travel through Kul Tiras, we are met with stunning visuals and grand scope. The sprawling city of Boralas (the Kul Tiran capital) quickly consumes you in its massive scale. The countryside of Kul Tiras is both beautiful and varied as we traverse open plains, mountainous ranges, and dense forests. What would Kul Tiras be, however, without the sea? The many coasts and inlets are astonishing.

The storytelling is as remarkable as the scenery. We’re introduced to scene after scene of some of Warcraft’s most beloved characters, both old and new. The Kul Tiran landscape is one riddled with love, loss, and intrigue. We experience it all as we vie for the support of the legendary Kul Tiran fleet. In addition to adventuring in Kul Tiras, we are able to travel to the island nation of Zandalar, where the Horde seeks to bolster its own fleet.

Worth Playing?

While the main story arch will keep you clamoring for more, the war campaign will bring you toe to toe with the unrelenting Horde. Whether or not you choose to play in the new War Mode, the campaign will draw you into the true Battle for Azeroth. Both PvE and PvP options abound in the breakout of this new war, allowing players of every playstyle and preference to take part.

Ultimately, Battle for Azeroth has been amazing so far. The visuals and storytelling are some of Blizzard’s best to date. I’m excited to see what else the new expansion has in store. What do you think? How does Battle for Azeroth compare to the rest of World of Warcraft? As always, post your questions or comments in the section below. Until next time, we’ll see you in Azeroth.
