Coming off the reported rumor’s to Doomcock that the original Thrawn trilogy will be the direction Star Wars is taking, I wanted to add to the speculation with a resounding cheer! Yes! Yes! Please do this!
Here’s the thing about a Canon reboot that most fans of the current canon won’t admit: they care less about a reboot than those that do.
Fans of the EU are berated for being upset that the hundreds of books, comics, and novels were relegated from canon by Lucasfilm by KK by fans of the current canon. You reverse that ex-communication and put the shoe on the other foot. And guess what? the EU fans will cheer and get excited at future star wars content and the fans of the recent content won’t care because the story ended and wasn’t going anywhere anyway.
A Thrawn trilogy followed up with more movies and tv shows using the books and comics as source material will make older fans happy while opening up a whole new world to the new fans.
It Worked for Harry Potter
I hadn’t picked up a Harry Potter book until after the third movie and after reading the first 5 couldn’t wait for the next few books!
The same would happen with Star Wars books. If Lucasfilm gave us the Thrawn trilogy then the sales for those books would go through the roof. (Mr. Zahn gets a big payday!)
The knock-on effect would be a boon for all other Lucasfilm-owned books! without having to write or publish a damn thing, everyone goes out and gets every book available!
It doesn’t matter if they recast the main cast or use the skills of Shamook who they recently hired for his exquisite deepfakes of Luke and Tarkin!
So yeah, reboot the canon and start with the Thrawn trilogy. Let’s not forget that we get the wonderful Mara Jade with this trilogy!
