Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Trailer Breakdown

Were the delays to the Skywalker Saga worth the wait?

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Official Trailer

On August 25th, the long-awaited second trailer to the long-delayed Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga dropped amid Gamescom. WB Games has been working on this game for quite a while, and while the final product has been delayed, was it for the better? Upon my watching the trailer, Let’s break down The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Good about Lego Star Wars

The Good is that we finally have (another) release date. Spring 2022. There were Christmas Advent calendars sold last year with the promise of a code to get a special minifig in the game playable presumably in Free Play modes. We suspect it will be Darth Vader in a Christmas sweater but more on that in a moment. We also heard some iconic lines from the movie series and some that were changed up a little bit to add in some Lego humor. The voice acting of these lines efforted a chuckle from me as I watched the trailer each time. Then came the best of the “Good” of the trailer: The galaxy map with Crait, Utapau, D’qar, Kamino, Cantonica, and more that we will visit. (Five planets were also not labeled, so there is even more to the more!)

The Bad about Lego Star Wars

The Bad, is the wait time yet again. We have the LIFEDAY code from the advent calendar and yet another nearly year we will have to wait to use it. Plus if the planets are anything like the box sets in Indiana Jones 2 where there is not a set way to change your character easily, it is going to leave us quite stuck with whatever character is “inhabiting” the planet for you to do your brick destruction.

The Ugly about Lego Star Wars

The Ugly in this case is the first time I watched the trailer, some of the faces felt off, the mouth and eyes moving without the base Lego head moving to give us the real “Toys To Life” experience that we expect from WB Games/TT Games. And it doesn’t seem as if any actors are reprising their roles in the game either. We heard snippets from the movie used in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens and some of the non-movie cuts are hit and miss in immersion. It is just like my complaint about the speeder bikes in Season 1 of Mando. It is fine. I am not hating it, but it is ugly and takes me out of it for a moment.

Final Thoughts:

Overall though, I am still completely stoked about the game finally getting a new official release “window”, and I look forward to it getting a definitive date. Now if Mrs. Anthony and I can time it right we can finish our “Tour de Lego” where we have been playing every Lego game to 100% completion in release order just in time. A monumental task, but one we are excited to try to do!

You can catch that Tour de Lego on Twitch at Vault37Studios and join us for some fun banter and married life strife as one of us is always screwing up what the other is doing. And of course, friendly fire is always in fashion!

Be nice to each other, damn it!
