Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil

The final installment in the Thrawn Ascendancy prequel series is finally here.

Originally introduced as an antagonist in Timothy Zhan’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, Grand Admiral Mitth’raw’nuruodo–A.K.A Thrawn–is one of the greatest characters in all of the Star Wars universe. He’s just amazing. So when Disney announced the purchase of Lucasfilm and the subsequent dismissal of all Star Wars canon, the story of Thrawn became Legends, which just wasn’t good enough. Thanks to the efforts of Dave Filoni (the chosen one) and to Timothy Zhan himself, Thrawn is back in a big way.

Not only did the Chiss Admiral make a prominent appearance in Star Wars: Rebels, but he was briefly mentioned in an episode of The Mandalorian. Now, if the Chiss only appeared in Star Wars: Rebels, one could easily write Thrawn’s reappearance in canon as just a bit of fan service. But the mere mention of his name in The Mandalorian leaves fans to not only hope that Mitth’raw’nuruodo will make a live screen appearance but having faith that the chosen one will make it happen.

And it is my belief that the final installment in the Thrawn Ascendancy series–Lesser Evil–will bridge the gap needed to connect Star Wars: Rebels Thrawn to whatever he appears in on Disney+.

Thrawn Ascendancy: The Prequels

The Thrawn Ascendancy series follows Mitth’raw’nuruodo in his early life in Chiss space. It introduces readers to the culture, people, and military might that is the Chiss. But what is most important about these books is that it sets up why Thrawn was worried about his people and why he needed to be exiled from them. On November 16th, the final installment of this series–Lesser Evil– launched. This book is to fill the final gap between his early life and the events that send Thrawn to the Empire.

Review

I have loved this book series. Timothy Zhan explores what made Thrawn the man he was in modern and legends canon. I have all the books and the audiobooks. Anyone who knows me knows that I love listening to Star Wars novels and the Thrawn and Thrawn Ascendancy book series are the main reasons for this. The audio quality of Star Wars is simply amazing. Ambient sound effects make it feel like the listener is there in the moment. That, coupled with excellent voice actors, make these books simply astounding.

While I haven’t finished Star Wars: Thrawn Ascednacy: Lesser Evil yet, I have started it, and it is AMAZING! If you want to try Audible for free, check out the link to Audible for two free books of your choice. Choosing any book about Thrawn is worth it.

Stay tuned for a full report on the novel as I finish it.
