The Venture Bros Season 7: The Return to Greatness!

Warning: Minor Spoiler Alert

If you are a long-time fan of the The Venture Bros, then Sunday night was a damn good night. The family Venture returned after close to 2 years of absence. That doesn’t seem like long time, but Rick and Morty fans know where we are coming from. If you are a true fan, then you probably spent the last few years watching, and rewatching, and re-rewatching seasons 1 through 6 and enjoying the hell out of it. But finally the time is here and season 7 is upon us. Was it worth the wait? Was the Venture Bros season 7 return as glorious as we had all hoped?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!

If you are a true fan, then you stayed up until midnight Sunday the 5th to see all your favorite characters return. We saw appearances from The family Venture themselves, The Order of the Triad, the Monarch and crew, and, of course, White and Billy. We also saw new favorites like Wide Whale and Red Death.

Episode Recap

The episodes that aired Sunday, The Curse of the PROBLEM and The Roqual Affair, are the first two of a three part story arc that is set to finish the events of the Blue Morpho. These two episodes seem to run concurrently. The Curse of the Problem tells the story of the haunting of the Venture compound, while The Roqual Affair follows The Blue Morpho as he gets in over his head with Wide Whale. The episodes take place at the same time, with events from each crossing over into the other. This gives the arc a sense of continuity that connects back to the events in season 6. This continuity makes it feel like only yesterday fans were watching season 6 unfold for the first time…and not the 50th.

Spoilers Ahead!

The Curse of the Problem begins two years in the past with Jonas Venture Jr. exploring the destroyed remains of Gargantua 1. He discovers and returns the super computer with the problem light to VenTech headquarters in New York. Flash forward two years the PROBLEM box seems to have inserted a computer virus onto the buildings control grid, causing the Ventures’ new home some serious issues. While Doc is sure he can fix it with science, Dean is not so sure. He calls Dr. Orpheus in for help. Orpheus and crew hold a seance to rid the compound of whatever evil seems to be lurking only to discover that the PROBLEM box holds more than just a virus.

The Roqual Affair follows The Monarch as the Blue Morpho as he tries to get Wide Whale to give up arching rights for Doctor Venture. Wide Whale is not fooled however and reveals that he’s been nursing a secret grudge against The Monarch for years. This coupled with the Guild of Calamitous Intent’s investigation into who is the Blue Morpho and Hank Venture’s love affair with Wide Whales daughter makes for a raucous good time.

Spoilers & Throwbacks

There are a lot of references to earlier seasons in these two episodes. We learn why and how Gargantua 1 feel from the sky and what the PROBLEM light really meant. We also see the aftermath of The Monarch’s murder of his first arch after Doctor Venture. There are obvious ties to season 6 as we see the Guild deal with the Blue Morpho murders and the relationship between Hank and Serina blossom into an awkward teenage gropefest.

All in all, The Venture Bros season 7 premiere did not leave fans wanting. The worst part of the premiere was knowing that now that two episodes are over, season 7 is closer to completion that it was before. And if the past is any indication of what fans can expect, season 8 won’t be here until 2020.

You can watch the Venture Bros. on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on Sunday nights at midnight. Come back each week for more Venture Bros content.  What did you think of the season 7 premiere? Leave a comment in the section below and let us know what was your favorite part.
