Supergirl Recap S2 E03 “Welcome to Earth” (Spoilers Ahead)

In this week’s episode of Supergirl, Kara and the DEO are protecting the president. Meanwhile, an alien attack leads to an alien vs. human fight in National City. Alex teams up with Maggie Sawyer to solve the case, while Supergirl fears Mon-El may be responsible.

Important Things to Know Going Into This Week’s Episode

1. Mon-El

I’m assuming this is the Kryptonian that Kara and Clark found back at the beginning of the season. When he finally woke up, he immediately attacked Kara. The hope would be that a new Kryptonian would mean another character similar to Clark and Kara. Not all Kryptonians are as good as them, though.

2. Kara’s reporter job

Last week, Kara struggled to impress her new boss but made some headway towards the end of the episode. Let’s hope that she’ll impress him even more this week, and we’ll see her actually experience her new role as a reporter.

3. Departed Friends

Last week, Clark and Cat both decided to leave, causing a bit of an existential crisis for Kara. They are still on the billing for this episode, though, so I’m excited to see how they play a role, even if it’s small, in this particular story-line.

The Biggest Moments in this week’s episode (SPOILERS!)

1. Kara’s meeting the President!

The president is on her way to National City to visit the DEO as a part of her initiative to give aliens the same rights as humans. Seeing Kara freak out about being able to meet her when J’onn and Alex told her about it was awesome. But seeing her get shut out of the story by her boss in the next screen definitely felt sad. At least Supergirl was there to keep the situation from getting more out of hand when the president was attacked.

2. Lena Luthor

It is hard to understand exactly what Lena Luthor’s endgame is. When she was initially introduced, I assumed that she was trying to separate herself from her brother as much as humanly possible. The fact that she is making anti-alien technology, at this point in time, suggests that she is much more like her brother than people might have guessed.

3. Alex and Maggie

Alex initially has a hard time when she sees Maggie Sawyer popping up at all of her crime scenes, but, when she’s invited into the safe haven of the aliens, she finally figures out what to do to try to locate Mon-El. I wonder if Kara will learn about this bar at any time in the future. It seems like a place she might enjoy checking out.

4. Daxam

Mon-El is not from Krypton, he’s from a sister planet known as Daxam. Kara explains that all of their people are dangerous and that they are inherently violent. The irony that she is so dismissive of a different race, despite being upset at people who are dismissive of the idea of aliens getting basic rights, is glaring. Kara definitely needs to look past her pride and try to understand that.

5. Scorcher

It wasn’t the Daxamite attacking the president at all. It was an alien that can generate and throw fire. Alex goes back to the alien bar to get information on her whereabouts, and then she and Kara go to save Maggie. I really like how the two of them always seem to be right there when the other one needs them. It definitely made for an awesome fight scene at the end of the episode.

Ryan’s Random Thought:

Does Winn not work for Catco anymore? I know that he got an awesome gig at the DEO, but I just assumed that he would stay on at Catco as well. I guess I just assumed that it was that way because that’s what Supergirl does. In this episode, though, it seems pretty clear that he just works for the DEO, and that is awesome! He only really needed to work for Catco to be able to meet Supergirl and mark his place in Supergirl’s life. Working exclusively at the DEO, though, lets him stay more involved in the everyday happenings of Supergirl.
