Disney’s Aladdin Performs Better than Expected: Here’s Why!

Disney’s latest live-action remake, Aladdin, performed much better at the box office on its opening weekend than even the House of Mouse had anticipated. With a Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score of 94, it seems the public enjoyed the new film (unless this is another example of Russian trolls). Critics, on the other hand, didn’t think so highly of the remake, scoring it an average of 58. So why how did Aladdin bring in an estimate 234.7M in worldwide ticket sales? Here’s what I thought of Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin.

Summary:

Just in case you have neither seen the original 1992 animated film Aladdin nor heard the ancient tale modernized for Disney audiences, here’s a summary. A kind-hearted street urchin (Aladdin) and a power-hungry Grand Vizier (Jaffar) vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true. Keep in mind that while Jasmine is a major character in the film, the story is Aladdin’s. This makes the film, and the original, unique to Disney movies.

Overall Review

Overall Aladdin was a fine movie. It was entertaining it was fun it was flat-out enjoyable. There were things about the film that I didn’t like and everything’s about the film that I absolutely loved.  the biggest drawback this film has for itself is the fact that it’s a remake. Will Smith Genie just can’t compete and doesn’t seem to try to with Robin Williams Genie. He is a genie unto himself. Looking through that prism Will Smith does an excellent job. The story, the songs, and the effects are all excellent…for a stand-alone movie. But for a remake, it does feel like it.

The latest in Disney’s live-action remakes does excellent fan service boss still creating its own storyline.

Problems with the Remake

My biggest problem with this film is the exact reason why I love the original: it’s a musical. If Disney’s Aladdin we’re simply to have used the soundtrack and made reference to the music, then I think this film would have been phenomenal. as it is, Mena Massoud who plays Aladdin just didn’t emote enough for his musical scenes. everywhere else he was charming and charismatic physically able to become an in-body Aladdin except for in the musical numbers.

Will Smith does a fine job at the genie in the musical numbers. but again, he’s just not Robin Williams. The fact that Will Smith doesn’t try to be  Robin Williams is a credit to the actor And its part of the reason why Aladdin is the second largest box office opener for Will Smith behind Suicide Squad.

Guy Ritchie did an excellent job taking a classic film and making it new to an older audience fun for a new audience. there’s enough nostalgia and storyline lovers of the original to enjoy this film. while at the same time it’s different enough to engage an entirely new audience.
