SWGOH News: 3 Things We Learn from the Ship Post

The most recent Developer Q&A has a lot of us speculating about what is to come for Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes (SWGOH). In my most recent video, one commenter pointed out that many of the reviews could subdivide into 3 responses: that’s not important, good idea (but), and we don’t have the bandwidth for that. While this is an oversimplification, it’s not too far off the mark. But one section of the Q&A needed a separate post entirely to explore. So SB_Crumb posted a follow-up interview with a designer to explore the idea of Ships in SWGOH more in-depth.

This interview gives us 3 things players need to know about the ship component of the game.

MOAAAR SHIPS SOON ™!!!

One thing that was cool to read was that the developers had always intended to add a ship component to the game. In fact, it was meant to be part of the game at launch. But as I mentioned earlier, the company doesn’t seem to have the bandwidth to develop both new characters and ships. In the interview, SB_Crumb points out that the same person who develops new characters is also the same person who designs new ships.

So, with that in mind, here’s a link to the Capital Game’s website. If you are a designer, creator, code genius, or just a passionate nerd who wants to help, please check their job board. Let’s help this game thrive! #SaveSWGOH #SupportSWGOH #BecomeADev

A Ship Raid (Component) Soon™

Let’s face it: we all want to destroy the Death Star! And for the last two years, players have been asking for a ship raid. Or, at the very least, ship components in different raid aspects. We already have a ship component in Territory Battles so it shouldn’t be asking too much to see ships in a raid. And from this interview, it sounds like one is in the works… sort of.

The final question in the interview specifically asks about this much-desired component to the game. And while the answer is less than what I would like, it gives us enough to know where we stand.

So maybe it will be some time before we get a ship raid, especially if there’s only one guy developing all the characters and ships. But maybe if they get an intern–who can bring a second computer to the team–we might get something soon.

A None-too-Suddle Separatist Ship Slip

Finally, there was a “wink-wink” “nudge-nudge” to Nute getting the next capital ship. When asked about what the future of ships looks like, we get this dad joke as a response:

SWGOH Character/Ship Developer to SB_Crumb

“I wish we could show more benevolence and tell you exactly what’s coming, but negotiations are underway about when we will share the news.”

I feel like this line was said while the developer was winking obviously and nudging SB_Crumb. In fact, if he didn’t do that, I might stop playing this game altogether because that would have been a terribly wasted moment. This quote is clearly implying that the Separatist capital ship the Malevolence is coming to the game. The real question is who will sit at its helm: General Grevious or Count Dooku.

I am still leaning more towards Nute Gunray’s donut and hole capital ship, but I doughn’t want to get my hopes up. We could still get Admiral Trench, but I think I am the only person on the interweb that really wants that. (See what I did there?)

Conclusion

There were other hidden gems in this post and the developer’s Q&A. It was hinted at that we would get ships without pilots. This would lean towards the Separatist Vulture droids or even tri-fighters. Maybe we’ll get a capital ship that doesn’t require a fleet commander. There are a number of possibilities that lie in store for ships on the SWGOH holotable.

Players will just have to wait and see what the next Territory Battle map brings us.
