DC TV Shows on the CW Recap for 3/14-3/15

On The Flash, Barry decides to venture into the speed force in order to save Wally. The Legends track down Commander Steel, and the last piece of the Spear of Destiny. On Arrow, Oliver continues searching for Prometheus, and Felicity is given an ultimatum by Helix.

Important Things to Know This Week:

Supergirl is not airing this week.

Last week, we saw the potential collapse of Barry and Iris’ relationship. That pales in comparison to Wally being sucked into the speed force, though. On top of all of that, Savitar is now in the world again. Hopefully the team can solve some of these issues this week.

The team finally has Rip back, and that gives them a higher chance of beating the Legion of Doom. Now, though, they will have to race toward the last section of the Spear of Destiny. We should also keep in mind the budding relationship between Nate and Amaya, and the fact that it will need to end, as Ray said last week.

Adrian Chase is Prometheus. A lot of other stuff is going on, but this is the big thing to remember. I hope it is a misdirection, but I doubt it…

The Biggest Moments This Week (Spoilers!):

The Flash: (S3 E16: Into the Speed Force)

Going into the speed force is an interesting move. It’s awesome that the team was able to come together and figure out how to keep track of Barry and to keep him alive. The speed force itself is more than a little creepy. Barry has to face the people who have died trying to help him, and it’s difficult to see Barry have to deal with that. On top of that, he has to deal with the consequences of creating flashpoint, a time wraith, Zoom, Leonard Snart,

Back in Central City, the team is trying to track down Savitar. In an effort to stop Zoom, though, Barry destroys the one thing that can bring him and Wally back. This creates a new problem for the team, as they have to figure out what to do in order to get them back. That means Cisco goes to find Jay Garrick, and they send him into the speed force to save Barry and Wally. I’m happy they found a way to bring his character back into the show again. Sadly, it also means that Jay is taking Wally’s place in the Speedster “prison”.

HR ends up insulting Jesse by telling her not to go after Savitar. I feel really bad for Jesse in all of this. She is dealing with Wally’s disappearance, isn’t allowed to go with Barry to help, and then has to deal with people doubting her. She is a speedster as well, and it makes sense that she would want to prove herself and fight for her friends. Hopefully she realizes that the team just wants to help her. Otherwise, she may end up getting seriously hurt in the future.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: (S2 E14: Moonshot)

I love the idea that Commander Steel worked his way up through NASA in order to hide the spear on the Moon. Unfortunately for the team, the Legion of Doom has already tracked it down. To make matters worse, Reverse-Flash has taken the place of one of the Apollo 13 astronauts, and the legion has, somehow, ensured that Apollo 13 doesn’t have to cancel their moon landing. We get to see Ray sneak aboard Apollo 13 and stop Thawne from carrying out his plan. Which is cool, but it ultimately leads to Ray getting stranded on the Moon when the Waverider gets damaged. Ray then has to work with Thawne to fix the shuttle they are on, in order to have a chance at survival.

Last week, Ray explained to Nate the importance of Amaya returning to her normal life, because of the impact it could have on her grand-daughter. So it makes it even more disappointing that he doesn’t understand that his grandfather can’t return to his normal life. At least Amaya has the sense to try to explain to Nate that it was a bad idea. When Nate doesn’t listen though, Amaya goes straight to Hank. That should keep Nate from trying to continue chasing Amaya. Unfortunately, though, Nate gets upset enough to reveal to Amaya what her life is like.

Even after saving Ray, the team still has to find a way to make it back to Earth without dying. That isn’t easy with the Waverider on reserve power, either. The nature of these shows means that there isn’t any doubt that they will make it, but losing Hank in the process is a hard reality to have to live with, especially for Nate.

Arrow: (S5 E16: Checkmate)

I figured Oliver would Learn Adrian is Prometheus this week, but I thought it would happen at the end of the episode. The whole storyline is incredible, I don’t want to spoil too much. Oliver and the team do everything in their power to find a way to bring Prometheus down. If this episode is any indication, the last stretch of the season may be some of the best Arrow episodes we ever see.

Similarly, the Russia flashback is getting really good. We shouldn’t be surprised. Culminating Oliver’s prequel journey has to be significant. I don’t really want to spoil much here either, but I will say that I’m beginning to understand how perfectly Russia is linking the prior four years to Oliver’s life as the Hood/Arrow/Green Arrow.

One thing that I am happy and comfortable talking about is the actions of Team Arrow. The team all show incredible growth and ability this week. Without their actions, Oliver would have no chance at all. Hopefully we’ll be able to see more of that for the rest of the season. It would help the show move from good to great. With the exception of Felicity. I understand that her hacked information is helping the team, but Helix is dangerous, and the fact that they are demanding she help them is not going to end well.

Overall:

With the increased focus on the thing chasing Thawne, it’s becoming clear that his story is going to be a big part of the end of Legends of Tomorrow. With that being said, Thawne contributed a lot to this week’s story, and he fully reminded us that he is from the future. We know that Thawne hates Barry Allen because of actions that happen in the future. I will be interested to see how this story ties into my predictions about the show heading toward a future-Barry story.

Ryan’s Speculation of the week:

I think that Amaya is going to leave with a fraction of the Spear of Destiny. We know that Amaya has to return to her normal life. The last two episodes of Legends of Tomorrow have made that perfectly clear. With that being said, something needs to happen with the Spear of Destiny, and I don’t think it will be destroyed. My guess is that Amaya, and others will split from the group to hide portions of the Spear of Destiny again. Amaya taking a section makes sense, because she is bound to leave. The question is, who else might end up with fragments of the Spear.

Supergirl airs on Mondays, The Flash & Legends of Tomorrow air on Tuesdays, and Arrow airs on Wednesdays on the CW. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this week’s slate of episodes.
