The Flash Recap S3 E02 “Paradox” (Spoilers Ahead)

In this week’s episode of The Flash, Barry realizes that more changes have been caused then he realized. He has to try dealing with those changes while adjusting to the new realities of the crime in Central City, and how that will affect his life.

Important Things to Know Going Into This Week’s Episode

1. The effects of Flashpoint are not as serious as they were.

Barry went back in time and let the Reverse-Flash kill his mom. This reversed Flashpoint in the sense that most things have gone back to normal in Central City.

2. There are still some differences.

We saw at the end of last week’s episode that Barry has caused some changes. Most Notably, Iris not talking to Joe anymore, for some reason. Let’s see what else Barry has changed as a result of his time manipulation.

3. Wells should be showing up at some point.

Tom Cavanagh is still signed on to play Harrison Wells this season. They’ve done that in each of the past 2 seasons by introducing alternate versions of Wells. It will be interesting to see what changes are made to introduce him this season.

The Biggest Moments in this weeks episode (SPOILERS!)

1. What Has Changed?

Here’s a list of the changes that Barry caused:

  • Joe and Iris don’t talk because Iris never forgave Joe for not telling her that her mom was alive
  • Cisco’s brother Dante died in a car accident, Cisco is not taking it very well, and he’s upset that Barry won’t change the timeline to save him.
  • There is a new CSI Tech dealing with Metahumans, he and Barry don’t get along.
  • Over in Arrow, Diggle now has a son (John) rather than a daughter (Sara).
  • And probably many more to come in future episodes.

2. Alchemy?

I don’t know what allows this thing to understand what happened in an alternate timeline, the fact that he was also able to change The Rival back into his speedster form from the other timeline is downright terrifying. I wonder what it will be like when Barry faces off against this guy.

3. Julian Albert

First of all, Tom Felton is more than welcome to guest star on every TV show that I watch. Even when he’s playing a mega-douche, he does it phenomenally well. I’m hoping he isn’t just a throwaway character. If he is around the whole season, I’ll be ecstatic.

4. Barry’s “Team” Dinner:

The whole sequence was beautifully awkward, It perfectly balanced the changes made to people’s lives while also showing what we love about Barry. He refuses to give up on the people he loves. Even if they refuse his help.

5. Barry goes back again:

I don’t know why he thought that travelling through time again was a good idea. The moment with the other Flash (his father’s doppelganger) was awesome. Hopefully Barry takes the lessons to heart and actually learns from it. Hopefully the group understands why he did what he did as well.

Ryan’s Random Thought:

If I’m being fair, I don’t understand what Cisco is going through, but you would think he would understand why Barry can’t go back. He has routinely proven to be the smartest character in the show, so it seems logical to assume that he would understand that it wasn’t this Barry that said he would never change the timeline to save someone, that saving Dante would cause more problems, and, mostly, that even if Barry did save Dante, this version of Cisco would never know about it.
