SWGOH New Character Release Cadence

So we just got some pretty big news from the developers of Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. CG_TopHat, the newest Live Producer for Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. I’m not sure exactly what that title means he does, but one of his responsibilities is to update the forums with news and whatnot. And his first major post was a doozy. CG_TopHat laid out the new character cadence that we can expect to see.

New Character Release Cadence

From here on out most new characters will be released through the same event structure we’ve seen with the Director Krennic and Death Trooper events. Now, not all characters will be released this way. We will still see a small handful of new characters go through events like unto Yoda or Palpatine. It sounded like these events will be for special characters, your Jedi Lukes and what not. The idea is meant to

  • Give new character releases the pomp and circumstance they deserve
  • Release new characters more regularly to keep the game fresh
  • Give enough shards to get the character started
  • Get the characters into your hands of the players

Once these events end, the new characters will spend some time four to six weeks in chromium packs, category packs, and the shard shop. So save your crystals and shards currency if you want to get a leg up on leveling these new characters up.  After the allotted time, these characters will be moved to a node of some sort and will be farmable.

I take this news to mean that we are going to see these events continue on a regular basis, likely once or even twice a month. We’ve already seen more than a dozen characters released in the fourth quarter of 2016. If that trend continues, we may see our rosters swell quite a bit in the next few months.

Possible New Characters

If you check out the character list on SWGOH.GG there are a lot of characters that have already been built out. Some of these are minor characters that are already in the game in one form or another, mostly support characters for random nods. Others are unique characters that have been teased in one form or another. It would make sense to make characters that are already part of the game’s code playable as it would cut down on additional work.

But there are some characters that may be in the code that we haven’t actually seen in battle. The video below is from the Youtube channel MobileGamer and covers some possible characters that may already exist in the code.

If the Mobilegamer is to be believed, there are a number of characters already in the works. From what I saw in the video we will eventually get the Ghost crew from Rebels. Obviously, Darth Nihlus is in the works. I think with their focus on dark side characters, it’s possible we will start getting more Separatist and Sith characters. Maybe when the next installment of Aftermath comes out, we will get more First Order characters, but we may have to wait until closer to Episode 8 to get those.

Personally, I would love to see Wicket and R2-D2 introduced. I love my Ewok team and would like to have a full roster to play with. I think it will be cool when we finally see the Knights of Ren as playable characters. Who do you want to see introduced to the game? Leave your comments in the section below.
