DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Recap S2 E01 “Out Of Time” (Spoilers Ahead)

When the threat of a nuclear bomb emerges in 1942 New York, Rip Hunter’s time-traveling team must again travel through time and save the world. But, will the Legends of Tomorrow save the world or die in the process.

Important Things to Know Going Into This Season

1. New teammates are coming:

With the death of Captain Cold and the departure of Hawkman and Hawkgirl from the team, the numbers looked a little thin. Cast lists fro season 2 have revealed numerous new additions. The safe assumption is that some (or most) of them will be part of the team, but don’t be surprised if some of them are villains as well.

2. New Mission:

The trailer suggests that the team will be taking over the job formerly done by the time masters (who they overthrew last season). This will definitely create a new dynamic for the show. Last season, it was a journey to save the future, now it seems more likely that they will be adventuring all throughout history to keep things the way they should be. Don’t be surprised though, to see some villains who want to mess with time, pop up.

3. Implications of Flashpoint:

When Barry Allen altered the timeline at the end of last season, and the beginning of this season, it changed a lot of things. In The Flash, Barry was told that he is incapable of changing things back to the way they were. It’s possible, though, that Rip Hunter’s team could set things back to normal. There is going to be a big crossover event next month, so, even if this isn’t the case, we should keep an eye out for what could be included in that crossover.

The Biggest Moments in this week’s episode (SPOILERS!)

1. Are the legends dead?

When Dr. Heywood and Oliver Queen find the ship, Mick is the only one there. He starts telling them the story of what went wrong. It seems, for most of the episode, that the team is dead, but, as we see later on, they have been sent to some other point in time in order to keep them safe.

2. Sara’s revenge plan:

Sara tracks down Damian Darhk as a part of her revenge plan for the murder of her sister. This leads the team to the discovery of the atomic bomb meant to destroy New York. Damian Darhk is only scheduled to return in the season finale. It will be very interesting to see what this return brings. If Sara does kill him, it could drastically change the history we’ve seen created on Arrow.

3. Rip and Jax:

Jefferson Jackson is getting increasingly upset about Rip not letting him help. Rip tells him that he wants someone to know everything about the ship in case something happens to him. Seems justified because moments later, Rip lets an atomic bomb hit the ship while he’s on board.

4. Einsteins and French Royalty:

One of mhy favorite things about Legends of Tomorrow is seeing them interact with historical figures. It was hilarious to watch the king of France be utterly confused about what is happening during the team’s fight with the “time pirates” while his wife was fooling around with Sara. The interactions with the Einsteins was also incredibly interesting.

5. Finding the team:

Mick and Heywood track down the rest of the team to get them together. They were all in perilous situations that came very close to killing them, so, in a way, they were all in danger of dying the whole time. It appears that Rip may actually be gone, though. It will be very interesting to see if he’s really gone.

Ryan’s Random Thought:

The appearance of the Justice Society of America is very interesting. We know from cast listings that 4 new characters are set to appear in every episode of the show this season (or close to it). We already figured out how Heywood and Eobard Thawn are involved, but have yet to see the introduction of Vixen and Malcolm Merlyn officially. I would say it’s fair to assume that Vixen will help the team. Merlyn though, had Sara killed, before restoring her in the Lazarus pit. His role is definitely harder to pin down.
