DC TV Shows on the CW Recap for 3/27-3/29

This week the recap will include all of the CW shows for the first time since early February. It will also be the last time this season. This week was heavy with important plots. It is definitely worth taking the time to watch.

Important Things to Know This Week:

After a brief trip to Earth-1, and an alternate dimension, Kara’s personal life should be back to normal. She does still have to deal with the looming threat of Cadmus, including Jeremiah Danvers, and there is still a slim possibility that Mon-El decides to leave.

Now that Barry and Iris are back to normal, Team Flash is back to doing everything they can in order to save Iris from Savitar. Of course, they will continue to have many challenges, as they try to change the future.

The Legion of Doom has altered reality, and everything is completely different. Last week, they got their hands on the Spear of Destiny, so they have changed everything to fit their ideal worlds. There is practically no chance that anything else from this season is very important to remember. This is actually the penultimate episode of the season for Legends, so it should be a good one.

Last week, Prometheus broke Oliver, and the current and flashback stories made Oliver admit to enjoying killing. He decided that he should shut down team Arrow after what he’s gone through. Prometheus is still out there, and so is Vigilante. At some point, they have to be defeated, right? Let’s find out.

The Biggest Moments This Week (Spoilers!):

Supergirl: (S2 E17: Distant Sun)

Having Supergirl fight violent aliens again is an interesting twist on this season. She has mostly been fighting Earth-based threats against aliens up to this point. I, like Mon-El, immediately assumed his parents were responsible for placing the bounty on Kara. It must be difficult for Mon-El to deal with his own mother trying to get his girlfriend killed.

As if sending Bounty Hunters wasn’t enough, Mon-El’s mother (Queen Rhea) actually attacks Kara herself when she and Mon-El confront her in the Fortress of Solitude. Mon-El decides to return to his family in order to Save Kara’s life. Unfortunately, his family does not agree with his thoughts on the ways they should change their world, and the way they rule. His mother even throws him in a cell, with a threat that he may be there for the full 4-year trip back to Daxam. Luckily, J’onn, Winn, and Kara teleport to the Daxam ship just in time to save Mon-El.

The secondary story this week is focused on Alex and Maggie’s relationship. The two of them see Maggie’s ex, and, through a number of strange interactions, secrets are revealed. Alex has to face the fact that Maggie doesn’t seem to trust her. Eventually, this leads to them having one of the realest moments in their relationship. It was a nice sub-plot to watch while the team was also dealing with Mon-El’s parents.

The Flash: (S3 E18: Abra Kedabra)

The villain of the week is a 64th-century magician who is responsible for bank heists in numerous time periods and dimensions. The team has a dilemma, though. Abra Kedabra can tell them secrets that will help them stop Savitar. He’ll only tell them if they let him go. This becomes an issue because Gypsy is hell-bent on bringing him back to Earth-19 and sentencing him to death. When Joe takes things into his own hands, Kedabra ends up getting away, and they don’t learn anything new about Savitar.

Seeing Caitlin and Julian rebuild their friendship, and potentially their relationship is awesome. The cooler part of this episode, though, is definitely Wally fighting with Barry again. The team is finally working together again, and that is going to be a big part of stopping Savitar. It’s awesome that Julian is able to step in and perform surgery on Caitlin. It’s not exactly a return to the romance they seemed to have earlier in the season, but it sets it up for the end of the episode.

I love that the culmination of this episode is a chase after the bad guy, rather than a fight. It’s a nice change of pace, and it really highlights the importance of speed to the show. It is hard for the team to accept that they’ve lost the chance of learning Savitar’s secrets, but they are never going to just give up. They had to accept that letting a mass murderer go just wasn’t worth it. When The Flash comes back, we’ll see Barry going to the future to learn how to save Iris, so he clearly realizes that there is something he can learn without bending to Kedabra’s will.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: (S2 E16: Doomworld)

In this twisted universe, Sara and Amaya are working for Damien Dahrk, the mayor of Star City. He has a vigilante version of Felicity killed, and then adds her mask to his collection which includes the Arrow, Flash, Vigilante, and many others from the Arrowverse. Eobard Thawne has taken over Star Labs and has Jax and Stein working for him in the lab, while Ray cleans up. Meanwhile, Malcolm Merlyn has his family back, has Thea’s love, and seems to be the head of the League of Assassins. He doesn’t like the way Thawne and Darhk are doing things, though, and he wants the Spear of Destiny for himself, so Thawne enlists Snart and Mick to stop Merlyn. Then, Nate shows up and changes everything.

Mick turning on Snart, and deciding to help Nate, is awesome. Nate realized that people have basic instincts that can persist through the altered reality. Coincidentally, Ray has built a device that can undo memory changing effects, even though he doesn’t know what he’s doing. The fact that Mick gets punched in the face every time someone’s memories are restored, is possibly the best part of this episode.

The Legends made an incredibly stupid mistake by again refusing to trust Mick. Their inability to trust him last week is what lead to the Legion getting the spear in the first place. If they would have just chosen to trust Mick, the legends would have been alone when going back for the Spear of Destiny. Luckily they didn’t alienate him enough to push him entirely back to the Legion. The Spear is now disintegrated, though, which seems like the end of the line. The Legends have one last plan to hopefully change reality back, but it will be a long shot. At least it will make for a great season finale.

Arrow: (S5 E 18: Disbanded)

As expected, the team is having a hard time accepting that Oliver decided to end things. The team is determined to continue defending Star City, even if they aren’t working with Oliver. Felicity also decides to keep fighting, although, for her, that means working with helix to try to track down proof of who Adrian Chase actually is. The team is then torn on what they need to do, after learning about Oliver bringing in the Bratva.

Oliver decides to bring Anatoly in, and pay him to kill Adrian Chase. He agrees to let Anatoly and the Bratva steal some drugs they need to create a street drug “more addictive than heroin.” Diggle and the team, of course, are still unhappy about this, and they decide to take things into their own hands to keep Bratva from killing Chase. Oliver and Diggle have a confrontation after Adrian is placed into federal protection, and Diggle leaves Oliver with something to think about, that will hopefully change his opinions.

As things get a little crazy, Oliver decides to enlist the team for help stopping the Bratva. Felicity and Curtis spend time trying to crack Adrian’s encryption software to prove that he is Prometheus, so the team is shorthanded. Still, they are a team and a team that works really well together. They are able to save the day this time, but now the Bratva want to come at them, and Adrian is on the loose again.

Overall:

This week is setting up a short break for three of the shows. Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow will come back in three weeks, and each of them are going to have a lot on their plates right away. Legends of Tomorrow, however, has a season finale next week. The episode listings, which have betrayed me all season for Legends, said this week would be the finale, but they have one more. I expect that there will be surprise actions, they will lose a team member, or something crazy. A simple episode where they just defeat the Legion of Doom is not what we need, and I hope it’s not what we get.

Ryan’s Speculation of the week:

Barry is finally going into the future. It doesn’t seem that he will be going too far, at first. I assume that he will eventually move forward to more significant moments of his future and that he may even bring the future version of himself back for help. I’m also interested in seeing what they do with the Killer Frost story. As I’ve said before her powers throw a lot of what we know about meta-humans into question, so at some point it would be valuable to learn more about it.

Supergirl airs on Mondays, The Flash & Legends of Tomorrow air on Tuesdays, and Arrow airs Wednesdays on the CW. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this week’s slate of episodes.
