DC TV Shows on the CW Recap for 4/24-4/26

Welcome back to the recap of the Arrowverse. After taking some time off, three of our shows are back with big stories this week. On Supergirl, Lena’s ex-boyfriend is in town, and Kara goes with her to a conference he is holding. On The Flash, Barry goes to the future to find out how to stop Savitar. While there, Barry meets the iterations of the team in a world where Iris dies. Oliver leads a manhunt for Adrian Chase involving his team, ARGUS, and the SCPD. Meanwhile, Helix offers his location to Felicity in exchange for an illegal favor.

Important Things to Know This Week:

Kara is still going to be dealing with being fired from Cat Co. With how much the show has set up Kara as a reporter, I doubt she is going to just stop trying. Maybe it will lead to her getting her job back, or possibly to a different job as a reporter. We also should keep Mon-El’s mother in mind. Now that she has killed his father, there isn’t anybody to stop her from trying to get Mon-El back to Daxam.

Caitlin is 100% Killer Frost. Her transition is going to be a major part of the story. Killer Frost attacking the city is one of the headlines from the future Barry was trying to change. With Barry going into the future, the team may have to find a way to stop Caitlin on their own.

Legends of Tomorrow is done for the season, go check out my recap for their season finale a few weeks ago.

After attempting to bring the Bratva in to help, Oliver is now back with the team. Chase is still out there, though, and he needs to be stopped. Whatever the team does, it’s going to be essential that they put a stop to Adrian before he causes more death and destruction. The biggest question is what Oliver will do after this goal is complete.

The Biggest Moments This Week (Spoilers!):

Supergirl: (S2 E18: Ace Reporter)

Kara is struggling with having nothing to do. After being fired, she wants to jump into DEO work, but they don’t have anything to do either. This leads to Kara trying to focus on freelance reporting, while Winn and James do quite a bit of Guardian work. Lyra actually joins Winn and James, but gets a bit over zealous. When Winn tells Lyra that she can’t help anymore, she freaks out. It will be interesting to see how this affects their relationship. I hope it doesn’t end up hurting Winn.

Kara begins investigating inconsistencies of a technology that Lena’s ex, Jack, is rolling out. During the course of her investigation, she watches two potential sources get killed. Later she discovers that Jack himself is actually tied into this technology and that he is the one killing these people. Lena goes to confront him, and she finds out that Jack is actually being controlled by a woman from his company. She then tries to take over Lena as well, but luckily Supergirl comes in and saves the day.

Lena has to make the tough decision to destroy the nanobot technology that has morphed with Jack. This saves Kara’s life and puts an end to the possibility of the technology being used for evil, but it also kills Jack in the process. This show has not dealt with deaths as much as the other shows, so it is interesting to see the way that it is handled in this episode. I get the sense that they might be hinting toward a death before the end of the season. I’m not sure who would end up being the character to die, though.

The Flash: (S3 E19: The Once and Future Flash)

Caitlin as Killer Frost always bothers me. It is literally the only example in the show of a person’s meta-human capabilities making them evil. In all other cases, a person is either good or bad, and being a meta-human only gives them powers. That is truly the key here, whatever is causing Caitlin to turn evil is what needs to be fixed, not being a meta-human.

When Barry goes to the future, bleak would be an understatement of the way things are. Barry fights a few enemies before moving on in his quest for answers. Cisco finds him, figures out what he is looking for and leads him to future-Barry. He doesn’t have the answers Barry is looking for, so Barry decides to leave. The problem is, he gets stuck in the future, and can’t create a portal to the past. He discovers that Killer Frost destroyed Cisco’s arms and that Julian is holding Caitlin in a prison to contain her powers.

After realizing that Caitlin knows who Savitar is, Barry tries to get answers out of her. She instead directs him to Wally, who was nearly killed by Savitar. in an attempt for revenge. Barry also visits Joe at Iris’ grave and realizes that he completely ignored Joe after Iris’ death. This seems like a direct correlation to Iris’ request for Barry to help Wally and Joe is she ends up dying. Hopefully, this causes Barry to change his actions, if he isn’t able to save Iris. His conversation with future Barry, though, leads to a question concerning what will actually happen as the season comes to a close.

Arrow: (S5 E19: Dangerous Liaisons)

After revealing Chase’s identity to the world, the public is naturally shocked that the Mayor didn’t recognize the serial killer he worked with sooner. I’m happy that we’re seeing more of Mayor Oliver, and I hope that we see even more of it down the stretch of this season, and into next season.

The side story with Rene and Quentin is incredibly interesting. It’s hard for Rene to accept that he could potentially be ready to get his daughter back again. It’s equally as hard for Quentin to understand why he isn’t willing to fight for his daughter. It is awesome to see him get to see his daughter at the end of the episode. The fight for getting her back will be an awesome side story to watch. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if it leads Rene to leave the team.

Helix is terrible. I have hated every part of it since Felicity got involved with them. In this episode, Felicity decides that she is going to attack ARGUS in order to break out a cyber terrorist (Caden James), just to catch Chase. The team prepares to stop Helix at ARGUS, but Helix outsmarts them and goes to an alternate site where Caden James is actually located. With Felicity playing an integral role in the breakout, we end up seeing team Arrow fighting against one of their founding members. Oliver has a moment of weakness. He could have disabled Felicity, and had a chance at stopping Helix. He didn’t. I think he’ll regret that.

Overall:

This week’s episode of The Flash is huge. Barry sees everyone living in a completely altered reality as a result of his actions after losing Iris. Barry decides to take things back into his own hands and get the team to work together. With the growing popularity of the Legends of Tomorrow, I could see the time travel aspects of Flash becoming extremely important in future seasons, so helping to put team flash back together in the future could go a long way in changing the nature of the Arrowverse. Besides that, it is freaking awesome to watch Barry put the team back together, and to watch future Barry come help save the day. I hope that we see this future team again at some point, regardless of how this season wraps up in the original timeline.

Ryan’s Speculation of the week:

I’ve already accepted that Thea is most likely not going to be a major character in Arrow after this season, especially with how many episodes she hasn’t been in this season. Now, I’m fairly convinced that Felicity will not be a part of the team after this season. I’m fairly certain that she will be sent to jail, or possibly killed. Oliver has done a lot of sketchy stuff over the years, and I know that is her justification. Felicity broke out a hyper-dangerous cyber terrorist, though. Even if it results in a win for the team, she has created a potentially catastrophic situation.

Supergirl airs on Mondays, The Flash & Legends of Tomorrow air on Tuesdays, and Arrow airs on Wednesdays on the CW. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this week’s slate of episodes.
