DC TV Shows on the CW Recap for 11/14-11/17 (Spoilers Ahead)

A lot happens on the DC TV shows this week. On Supergirl, The Guardian shows up to help save the day when an alien parasite drains Supergirl of her powers. Meanwhile, Mon-El tries to find his place in the world. On The Flash, Wally starts having vivid dreams of being Kid Flash, prompting Barry to tell him about Flashpoint in order to keep him safe. On Arrow, Oliver and the team have to deal with a new vigilante in Star City, and they can’t agree on how to handle it. Meanwhile, Oliver’s flashbacks to Russia reach a significant moment. The Legends of Tomorrow team returns to the old west top help Jonah Hex take on his arch nemesis Quentin Turnbull.

Important Things to Know This Week:

All of the characters in Supergirl are in a slightly weird place right now. Kara is still trying to balance her life. Winn is helping Jimmy become a superhero. Mon-El is still trying to find his place in the world. Alex is trying to understand her feelings for Maggie. This week’s episode will hopefully provide some answers.

We’re finally going to see Wally as Kid Flash again! After a week off for the election, we’re going to see an episode very centered on people adjusting to new powers as Wally and Caitlin are both adjusting to a very new situation. How will Barry and the rest of the team be able to help them?

Oliver and his team were in the middle of coming together, when Prometheus’ victims revealed the fact that Oliver used to kill his enemies. Now, Oliver has to try to keep his team on the same page, fight Prometheus, and deal with a new vigilante. Keep an eye on the way the team acts around Oliver in this week’s episode.

The Legends are starting to come close to a conflict with Damien Darhk and Reverse Flash. One thing I love about this show is that they do a great job of splitting the story among everyone, which makes it really hard to write about it in a concise way. We’ll want to pay attention to the whole team this week, but I’m most focused on Nate and Mick this week because they’ve taken on lesser roles in the last few weeks.

The Biggest Moments This Week (Spoilers!):

Supergirl: (S2 E06: Changing)

“Changing” is definitely an appropriate title for this episode. Alex, Mon-El, and Jimmy all experience changes in their lives. Alex is going through a huge shift in her life, and it’s great that Kara is able to be there for her as she comes out. It’s too bad that Alex can’t see that, though. Mon-El has to decide if he’s going to be a hero like Supergirl, or if he’s going to use his powers to get ahead in his personal life. Jimmy is becoming The Guardian which shouldn’t come as a shock to anybody, but it was significant that he had to realize that taking a step back until things were safe was essential. Winn’s active involvement in The Guardian was a bit unexpected, in my opinion.

Alternatively, the name could reflect the change Dr. Rudy Jones experiences as this parasite takes over his body.

On another note, I love this Alien bar. One of the biggest things this show has been missing is some sort of social scene where the characters can hang out in a nonwork-related way. I hope that this can become that spot for the show. It was also really entertaining to see Supergirl and Mon-El experience such a new sensation in their lives.

The Flash: (S3 E06: Shade)

I don’t understand why Joe, Iris, and Wally were so surprised that Barry had kept the fact that Wally had been a speedster a secret. They all agreed that they didn’t want to know about their Flashpoint lives, so it wouldn’t have made sense for Barry to share this secret. The conversation between the four of them was clearly not going to sway Wally to view things differently, especially because Wally is bound to transition now that he is having dreams of his Flashpoint form. Locking him in the pipeline was a convenient way to slow down the inevitable, but it definitely wasn’t going to keep Kid Flash from surfacing. Especially when it came down to Iris having to watch her brother suffer. At least she was able to stop him from getting to Alchemy. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t end up being a huge villain now.

I didn’t particularly like the villain of the week, “Shade”. I felt that the story-line distracted too much from the stories of Wally and Caitlin getting their new powers, and I would have preferred more scenes with Cisco, Caitlin, and H.R. in the lab. The story did serve a good role to advance the Alchemy plot, though. I am starting to think that Julian is Alchemy, which would put Tom Felton into more of a ‘villain’ role. This episode definitely made that seem like a likely possibility. It will be really interesting to see if it actually ends up being that way.

Arrow: (S5 E07: Vigilante)

Oliver’s team probably would have all been behind him if not for his past. The fact is they’re both right. There is a difference between a vigilante and a killer. The problem right now is that the team isn’t sure Oliver can judge anybody on that front. On Oliver’s side, he knows the danger of killing, and why it should be avoided from personal experience. Additionally, he has a great point that they can’t be mad at him about once killing people, but give this new vigilante a pass. I love that Oliver and the team decided to “rob a bank” in order to trigger a response from the new vigilante. Oliver’s fight with him was also one of the best fights this year.

In Russia, Oliver meets Konstantin Kovar and learns that he is aware of Tatiana, and that he has her mother with him. It will be very interesting to see what happens between Oliver and Konstantin through the rest of the season. I didn’t really like the way they presented those scenes this week, though. I felt like they were almost just thrown together to advance that plot, and that they didn’t really make sense.

An interesting subplot in this episode was the identity of Prometheus. It isn’t a major focus of the episode, but Lance and Thea definitely made it worth mentioning. Lance going to rehab makes it highly unlikely that he is Prometheus. The Tommy theory is still a possibility, though I question it personally. It is also possible that it’s somebody from Oliver’s time in Russia. This will be a story to watch for the rest of the season.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: (S2 E06: Outlaw Country)

I was right to expect a highlight on Nate this week. He is really starting to master his powers, and it’s definitely helping him to solidify his place on the team. Mick was also featured a lot, as he was in charge of drawing Turnbull out. The scene where Mick and Turnbull are just talking to each other, like they’re great friends, was absolutely hilarious. As I said earlier, the great thing about this show is the great way they’re able to balance the whole team.

Stein’s choice to stay behind, and the weird things happening to him, was probably the most interesting part of this episode. His visions are a little strange but could play into the events of last week’s episode. It’s possible that, as a result of learning the truth about time travel, young Stein has made some new life choices. Stein said that the woman he was seeing seemed familiar, even though he didn’t know her. If young Stein ended up going after some other girl, it would make these visions more understandable, but I really hope that isn’t the answer.

The Dwarfstar reserves that Turnbull is mining was definitely significant. I thought this was just going to be a filler episode before the Dwarfstar was introduced. The stuff is able to pierce Nate’s steel skin, which created a great plot-line in this episode (and also continued the theme of near-deaths in this show). We know that Ray has a suit for the crossover, and getting Dwarfstar could explain how he is able to make that happen. I loved his character without the suit, though, so I hope, if he develops a new suit, that he continues to show his new character traits for the rest of the season.

Overall:

One of the biggest overall moments this week was the revelation that Evelyn is working with Prometheus. This shows how easy it would be to frame Lance at the end of last week. Because Evelyn had made the cut that Lance woke up with. It can also explain why Evelyn didn’t call in the crew when she ran into Prometheus last week. The fact that it came just after Rene went out of the way to help Diggle have a birthday celebration with his son was a great contrast to the way the team is developing.

Wally’s story in The Flash is going to be great to watch. He was desperate for powers, and, now, he likely has them. If he follows the path of other people affected by Alchemy, he’ll be a villain for at least some portion of the time. Hopefully, the team is able to help him get to a point where he can be an ally.

Ryan’s Speculation of the week:

I mentioned this in the section about The Flash. Julian may be Alchemy. I don’t think this is a strong possibility, but it was oddly convenient that he was “busy” during the movie in the park. Also, the fact that he showed up after Flashpoint (which has generally only caused important changes). To top it all off, he is in charge of Meta-human CSI work and has been finding the husks. The groundwork is there, even if it is loose.

Supergirl airs on Mondays, The Flash airs on Tuesdays, Arrow airs on Wednesdays, and Legends of Tomorrow airs on Thursdays on the CW. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this week’s slate of episodes.

Next week, Arrow and Legends will be taking the week off, presumably for Thanksgiving, so, look forward to an early recap, and a lot of preview for the crossover event, next week.
