Arrow Recap S5 E03 “A Matter of Trust” (Spoilers Ahead)

In this week’s episode of Arrow, Oliver’s new team feels they are ready for the streets, but Oliver disagrees. When Wild Dog disobeys Oliver, he ends up getting overmatched by a new, powerful drug dealer. Oliver must then step in to save his new teammate.

Important Things to Know Going Into This Week’s Episode

1. Oliver has a new team.

Last week, we saw Oliver put recruits through some serious training, and, ultimately, welcome the newest members of team Arrow. Oliver will undoubtedly be worried still, considering what has happened to other former teammates, but I’m excited about this team.

2. Diggle is in trouble.

Last week, we saw  Diggle struggle with the fact that his superior in the army is not only breaking the law, but blaming others for it, and now, Diggle is likely on the hook for theft and murder of a fellow soldier. I’m not sure how he’ll get out of this one.

3. Oliver still cannot balance his 2 lives.

As much as it seemed to make sense for Oliver to be both the mayor and The Green Arrow, he definitely has not been able to do more than one to the best of his abilities. His duties as the mayor have often taken a backseat so far, much to Thea’s chagrin. Hopefully, his new team will help him to free up some more time like everyone hopes.

The Biggest Moments in this week’s episode (SPOILERS!)

1. Deadshot is alive!?

Deadshot (Floyd Lawton) was supposedly killed in a battle with The Suicide Squad. Now, somehow, he’s not only alive, but he’s Diggle’s cellmate in prison. Apparently, he escaped the collapsing building and went on the run. A few months later, he was captured. What I originally thought was an effect of Flashpoint, is just a casual coincidence. Or maybe, it was just all in Diggle’s head.

2. People should start listening to Oliver.

We saw 2 instances of people going against Oliver’s orders early on in this episode. Wild Dog and Thea both made very bad choices by searching out the dealers, and appointing Lance as deputy mayor, respectively. When Thea tries to fix her problem, she only makes it worse by alerting the media of the fact that she appointed Lance without Oliver knowing. Wild Dog’s problem, on the other hand, creates a “royally pissed off” DA, and an incredibly powerful reanimated corpse of a dangerous drug dealer.

3. Speaking of the guy returning to life…

Apparently, the mixture of chemicals he was knocked into caused him to appear dead to the paramedics, but come back just before the coroner started the autopsy. He then proceeded to trash the hospital and really take it to Oliver. He then returns to his crew of dealers and thugs to convince them to do the same thing that gave him so much power. This could have bee the army that Oliver faced off against this season, it might still be at some point, but they were able to stop this attempt before anything too serious happened.

4. Felicity’s shame:

Felicity is, justifiably, uncomfortable about the fact that she caused the nuclear destruction of the hometown of one of the newest members of Team Arrow. Curtis is obviously right about her not being able to hide it for long. She reveals her secret at the end of the episode, and he clearly did not take it well at all.

5. The Team in Action.

In great “Arrow” fashion, Oliver and the team “suit up” and go off to confront Sampson as he attempts to create his own army of super humans. That final battle was incredibly awesome, and really showcased the abilities of all of the teammates Oliver recruited. He couldn’t have done it without them, and he was smart to let them help.

Ryan’s Random Thought:

Thea definitely may be in over her head when it comes to being Oliver’s chief of staff, but we’ve really never seen her be this insecure about something. The fact that she was willing to quit after just 2 mistakes is strange, and not at all what we’ve come to expect out of Thea Queen. Hopefully, as the season goes on, we’ll see her gain some of her confidence back.
